Meet the Expert

SonarPro is organising Meet The Expert, meetings with experts from various business sectors in the cultural industries, so that SonarPro accreditation holders can ask questions, ask for advice or simply chat with them in 10-minute sessions. A total of 12 professionals will be present, representing sectors including management, commercial brands, communication, social networks and digital marketing.

FESTIVAL EXPERTS: George Hull & Alex Benson (Bloc Festival)

Influenced by the underground club scene of London in the early 2000’s, Alex Benson and George Hull began holding outdoor parties in the wild countryside of Norfolk, England as something of a teenage hobby. Turning 20, they turned the thing around with their first BLOC club events in Brighton, popular thanks to guests Billy Nasty, Radioactive Man and DMX Krew, but it wasn't until 2007 that things really rocked for the two, who still soley manage what is now BLOC festival, held at a unique holiday resort on the east coast of England, now in its fifth year and catering to some 6000 happy clubbers. No wonder really, with the likes of Aphex Twin, Carl Craig, Green Velvet, Derrick May, Autechre, to name just a few passing through.

ARTIST: Patrick Pulsinger (Cheap Records & Feed Back Studio)

Pulsinger produces music since more than 18 years. Co-founder of the label Cheap Records a highly acclaimed, internationally recognized imprint for artists like Mika Vaino, Robert Hood, Christopher Just, Gerhard Potuznik, Louie Austen, Phillip Quehenberger, Susanne Brokesch, August Engkilde. As producer and engineer he accompanied artists and bands like Patrick Wolf, DJ Hell, Hercules and Love Affair and many more. He releases his 4th solo album “Impassive Skies“ (Disko B), on June 18th 2010.

NATIONAL ONLINE MEDIA EXPERT: Isaac Marcet (Playground)

Isaac Marcet is director and founder of the first on-line music and tendencies newspaper in Spain. A project that in only a year and a half of seeing the light of day is already a musical reference in this country and has it's bilingual version. With writers collaborating from all over the world, 'Playground' can now be enjoyed as much in English as in Spanish, becoming a hit on the International, musical journalism scene.

INTERNATIONAL ONLINE MEDIA EXPERT: Nick Sabine (Resident Advisor)

Nick Sabine is a Founder, and Commercial Director, of Resident Advisor, the leading online electronic music magazine. Alongside ordering stationary and making the best tea in the office, Nick is responsible for the overall development of the business. He is also half-Germna, half-Australian. Try not to hold that against him. Established in 2001, RA publishes news, reviews and features to an audience of more than 650,000 monthly readers. With offices in London and Berlin and contributors spanning the globe, RA covers anything and everything that is electronic music-related.

INTERNATIONAL MARKETING EXPERT: David Loscos(Tenzing Media)

David started his career in the music industry at BMG Music Spain at the end of 1997, where he worked both as international and local Product Manager. In 2000 he joined Eresmas Interactiva - Wanadoo as World Music Channel Manager. From 2001 until 2003 he worked at MUXXIC Records, within the PRISA Media Group; first as Label Manager of WorldMUXXIC and later as Director of the Other Music Division. In 2003 he founded and managed Fireyellow, his own music company. Since then, he has been the Co-Director of the Music Industry Management Course at the Univerity Pompeu Fabra's Institute of Continuing Education in Barcelona. And in 2006 he joined ESMUC as Professor of Music Publishing and Record Production.

DIGITAL MARKETING EXPERT: Scott Cohen (The Orchard)

Scott Cohen is the co-founder of digital distribution pioneer The Orchard. As a well-recognized public speaker and lecturer, Scott travels the world evangelizing new business models for the digital age. He is a visiting professor at London Metropolitan University and sits on the BPI Council. Scott’s music career started in the late 80’s in independent and major label artist management. In addition to his responsibilities at The Orchard, he manages Danish indie rock sensation, The Raveonettes and American all girl band The Dum Dum Girls.

MANAGEMENT EXPERT: Mark Davyd (Outstanding Artists)

Mark has worked in the music industry for 23 years, first as a musician and writer before subsequent jobs as tour manager, sound engineer, promoter, venue owner, label owner and finally manager. He is the director of Outstanding Artists, a European based management company and record label with offices in London and Barcelona. The current roster includes The Pinker Tones, Maika Makovski, Pecker, Ovni, Gentle Musicmen and La Brigada. Outstanding specialises in international licensing, placement and synching. Mark is also the CEO of one of the UK's largest music charities, Rhythmix, which creates music making opportunities for young people in challenging circumstances.

BRAND EXPERT: Davide Bortot (Red Bull Music Academy)

Davide is one of the main organizers of the Red Bull Music Academy, dealing mostly with (new) media, communications, and talent. Is also the former editor-in-chief of Europe's leading hip hop magazine JUICE (2003-2007) and a freelance writer for several music magazines and broadsheet papers in Germany (Spex, Groove, Süddeutsche Zeitung, jetzt, Neon).

LEGAL EXPERT: Enric Enrich (Enrich Advocats)

Enric Enrich is specialized in private international law, copyright and image rights. He represents clients in different sectors of the entertainment and cultural industries: film and television, music, publishing, sports and media. Amongst other things he’s member of the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers (IAEL) and Association Litteraire et Artistique Internationale (ALAI).

MUSIC COMMUNICATION/PROMOTION EXPERT: Marc Tapias (EnSilencio)

Marc Tapias is the EnSilencio director, a cultural communication agency focused in live music. He works in festivals as BAM, Sonisphere, SOS4.8, In-Edit Beefeater, FIZ …and communication campaigns leading concert artists Metallica, BB King, Erykah Badu, Chemical Brothers, FallOut Boy, Rufus Wainwright, Madness, Keane, Julieta Venegas, Slipknot, James, Steward Copeland (The Police), Los Planetas, Nacha Pop, The Cinematic Orchestra, Orbital, Underworld, Two Many Djs, Nouvelle Vague, amongst others.

STREAMING EXPERT: Paul Brown (Spotify)

Paul Brown is an experienced digital media business executive and music business lawyer with over 12 years working in music and digital media, commercial law, corporate finance and venture capital. He’s currently the UK Managing Director of European music service, Spotify. He’s also retained as a consultant by Topspin Media, the direct to fan music marketing technology company and a Non-Executive Director of Slicethepie, the leading UK recording artist fan funding platform.
